Having grown up in Athens, Greece, Katerina moved to the UK to study Mathematics at Oxford University. During her four-year MMath degree, she enjoyed Networks, Numerical Algebra and particularly Optimisation courses, which she researched more for her dissertation on Splitting Optimisation Algorithms.
From her maths studies experience and the internships she completed in software engineering and consulting, Katerina discovered her interest lies in algorithmic development for optimization and its applications.
Her research project requires applying mathematical optimization to choose the best parameters that will maximise the effectiveness and efficiency of a deep drilling process. Katerina is looking forward to learning a lot more on this area and working alongside the very bright and inspiring people in the Scientific Computing group.
