Ambassador Dimitris Caramitsos-Tziras
DIPLOMATIC CAREER
Ambassador Caramitsos-Tziras joined the Greek Diplomatic Service in 1983 and has served in a wide range of posts in Japan, the United Kingdom, the United Nations (New York), in the U.S. (Los Angeles), Bulgaria, South Africa, and Canada. He has also held various positions at the Foreign Ministry in Athens, among others, EU Internal Market Director, Counter-terrorism Coordinator and UN Head of Section.
From 2009 to 2014 he served as Ambassador-Deputy Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations in New York.
In 2014, he was appointed Director General for EU Affairs of the Foreign Ministry and Coordinator of Greece’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
From 2016 to 2020, he served as Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Permanent representative of Greece to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
In November 2020, he was appointed the Government’s Liaison with the “Greece 2021” National Committee, the official organizer of Greece’s Bicentennial and advisor to the President of the Committee, Mrs Gianna Angelopoulos.
Since January 2022, he is Greece’s Ambassador to Japan.
BUSINESS
From 2002 to 2004, he worked for the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games Organising Committee (ATHOC) as General Manager for personnal and volunteers.
He is International Affairs Advisor at Brookstreet Equity Partners LLP, a London-based FCA registered alternative investment fund manager (AIFM). Previously (2016-2020) he was a member of the Advisory Board of the International Diplomatic & Business Exchange in London.
PERSONAL
In 2008 he was appointed Grand Commander of the Order of the Phoenix by the President of the Hellenic Republic.
Since 2020, he is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers of the City of London. He has studied Law & International Law at the Universities of Athens and Thessaloniki.
