Biography
Maria completed her undergraduate studies in Physics and Theoretical Physics at Imperial College London and later obtained an MPhil in Scientific Computing at the University of Cambridge. Wanting to pursue a more practical and applied field of studies was the reason she decided to transition from theoretical to computational physics.
Maria was always fascinated by the physics of plasma which is why her MPhil research project was focused on integrated simulations for the interaction of plasma with resistive walls. This lead to the PhD she is currently pursuing, within the same research group, and in collaboration with Tokamak Energy - a nuclear fusion energy company.
The aim of this research project is to develop a fully integrated code for whole-system simulations of tokamak fusion reactors, which compliments experimental work and helps facilitate the realisation of commercial fusion energy.
In the future, Maria hopes to continue her research on relevant, green energy related areas.
